{"id":10389,"date":"2020-05-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/threecloud.wpengine.com\/post\/overview-of-analysis-services-monitoring\/"},"modified":"2023-05-01T14:40:17","modified_gmt":"2023-05-01T19:40:17","slug":"overview-of-analysis-services-monitoring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/3cloudsolutions.com\/resources\/overview-of-analysis-services-monitoring\/","title":{"rendered":"Overview of Analysis Services Monitoring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Do you want to learn how to monitor the health of Azure Analysis Services servers?<\/strong> In a recent webinar with Principal Consultant, Alan Faulkner, he <strong>explores several different monitoring tools that range from monitoring the health of Azure Analysis Services servers to profiling data for SQL Server Analysis Services events.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are many events that you can monitor and a variety of different monitoring tools. <strong>Choosing the right tool is based on the type of monitoring that needs to be done, as well what platform you\u2019re focused on such as multi-dimensional, tabular or Azure Analysis Services.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Monitoring option available are:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Azure Metrics Explorer<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 a free tool in the Azure portal that helps you monitor the performance and health of your Azure Analysis Services servers.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Azure Diagnostics<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 used to monitor and log Azure Analysis Services server performance.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>SQL Server Profiler<\/strong> <\/span>\u2013 tracks engine process events and captures data about those events enabling you to monitor database and server activity.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Extended Events<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 a lightweight tracing and monitoring system that uses very few system resources, making it an ideal tool for diagnosing problems on production and test servers.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Trace Events<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 follows the activity of an Analysis Services instance by capturing and analyzing trace events and are typically grouped to find related trace events more easily.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Dynamic Management Views (DMVs)<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 queries that return information about model objects, server operations and server health.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Performance Counters *<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Log Operations*<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*The bottom two are more specific to Analysis Services multi-dimensional and are not focused on in this presentation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This webinar will focus on and demo Azure Metrics Explorer, Azure Diagnostics and SQL Server Profile<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">r<\/span>.
