Typical regression or classification models are trained on input data constructed of previous observations captured from a single point in time or cross-sectional, meaning time is irrelevant. However, in a time series data set, the order and the intervals at which the data is collected is important. In other words, time is an independent variable, while the value associated with the time is the dependent variable. Examples of this type of data include energy resource prices, stocks, transportation demand, and retail sales as in the graph below displaying furniture sales.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/3cloudsolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/image-png-May-25-2021-03-21-33-37-PM.png\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"width: 750px;\" width=\"750\"><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #007cba;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In this video, we will use the monthly prices of metals to demonstrate time series forecasting via a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/Azure-Synapse-Solution-Accelerator-Commodity-Price-Prediction\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #007cba;\">Microsoft Accelerator<\/span><\/a>. From accessing data, feature engineering, model validating, and finally &#8211; to storing the results, we will walk through all the major steps required to achieve an accurate time series forecasting solution. The highlight, however, is that by leveraging Azure Analytic Services, minimal coding and time series domain knowledge is required for implementation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/3cloudsolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/image-png-May-25-2021-03-24-44-77-PM.png\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"width: 500px; margin: 15px auto 0px; display: block;\" width=\"500\"><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The resources utilized in this video include <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/synapse-analytics\/overview-what-is\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #007cba;\">Azure Synapse Analytics<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/cognitive-services\/what-are-cognitive-services\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #007cba;\">Azure Cognitive Services<\/span><\/a>, and <span style=\"color: #007cba;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/machine-learning\/overview-what-is-azure-ml\" style=\"color: #007cba;\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Azure Machine Learning<\/a><\/span>. Azure Synapse Analytics is a service that unifies data integration and warehousing with data analytics. It also supports integration with multiple other Azure resources. For our solution, we will use Azure Synapse to not only store data, but access Azure Cognitive Services and Azure Machine Learning, tools that provide the power of AI without expertise knowledge. Through the <span style=\"color: #007cba;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/cognitive-services\/anomaly-detector\/overview\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #007cba;\">anomaly detector feature<\/a><\/span> of Azure Cognitive Services, we will evaluate the validity of our time series data and through Azure Machine Learning train a model to accurately forecast metal prices for one year into the future.<\/p>\n<div data-hs-responsive-table=\"true\" style=\"overflow-x: auto;
